West Virginia coaching search: Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Brian Hartline reportedly interviewed

According to Chris Anderson of 247Sports, Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Brian Hartline has interviewed to be West Virginia‘s head coach. Hartline also serves as the wide receiver coach in Columbus, running what many consider the best room in college football.
One of the top assistant coaches out there is now getting power conference head coaching consideration.
“Multiple sources tell @EerSportsDotCom that Ohio State offensive coordinator/receivers coach Brian Hartline was interviewed for the Head Coach vacancy at #WVU,” Anderson said via X.
Hartline got his coaching career started at Ohio State in 2017 under Urban Meyer as an offensive quality control assistant. He has never left the program, eventually working his way up to the title he currently holds. The co-offensive coordinator role is shared with Chip Kelly, hired this offseason after being UCLA‘s head coach.
Recruiting is where Hartline gets most of his recognition, consistently bringing in the best wide receivers in the country. Since the 2019 cycle, nearly 20 wide receivers have signed with Ohio State. Five of them have been ranked a five-star, most recently Jeremiah Smith. That does not include Marvin Harrison either, a top-100 prospect who turned into the top receiver in the game.

Development has been incredible as well, with Ohio State having seven wide receivers selected in the NFL Draft since Hartline took over as the position coach.
Of course, Hartline is in the middle of preparing for a College Football Playoff game against Tennessee. Ohio State is set to kickoff vs. the Vols on Dec. 21, hoping to advance and play Oregon in the Rose Bowl quarterfinals. A lot of pressure is on the program to perform and eventually win the national championship.
West Virginia decided to fire Neal Brown after a 6-6 2024 season. Brown was in Morgantown for six years and the ceiling was last campaign’s 9-4 record. The Mountaineers are hoping for a big-time upgrade at head coach, believing Hartline could be the answer.
