West Virginia defensive back Jasir Cox takes scoop and score 65-yards for touchdown vs Baylor
The West Virginia Mountaineers looked like they were gonna get blown out early on Thursday night against the Baylor Bears. They trailed 17-7 with less than nine minutes remaining in the second quarter, but they marched down the field and got a field goal to make it 17-10. Then, West Virginia defensive back Jasir Cox completely flipped the momentum of the game once he scooped up a Blake Shapen fumble and took it 65-yards for the house call.
Check out the touchdown here.
It was an awesome play by Cox and all he had to do was cut back inside to make an offensive lineman miss and it was off to the races for six points. It was a huge play for the Mountaineers as their secondary has been getting torched by the Baylor passing attack for the entire first half. West Virginia will likely need all the points they can get in a high scoring affair. That tied the game up at 17-17.

Then, the Bears countered with another touchdown of their own, as running back Craig Williams put the Bears up 24-17 with 1:14 remaining in the first quarter. He caught a screen pass from Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen and took it 39-yards to paydirt.

Baylor leads the game 24-17 at halftime. Bears’ quarterback Blake Shapen has taken a blowtorch to the West Virginia secondary, connecting on 12 of his 18 pass attempts for 294 yards, while tossing in two touchdowns and no interceptions. Outside of the fumble, he’s played impressive football. Baylor had six different players with a catch in the first half.
West Virginia quarterback J.T. Daniels was spinning some beautiful spirals of his own in the first half. He fired an absolute dart to Mountaineers receiver Reese Smith, who made a beautiful spinning catch in mid-air. It was a 30-yard completion across the middle and one of the prettiest looking passes of the first half.
Baylor has never won in Morgantown coming into Thursday night’s game.
