West Virginia fans storm court after upset win vs. No. 2 Iowa State

West Virginia broke out throwback jerseys on Saturday in honor of Mountaineer legend Jerry West. He was one of the greatest players in the history of the sport on multiple levels and WVU brought out some beautiful looking jerseys in his honor. And the Mountaineers got an impressive upset win over No. 2 Iowa State on Saturday, continuing a day of chaos in college basketball.
Following the big win, WVU fans had to storm the court.
West Virginia delivered one of the biggest upsets of the 2024-2025 season. The Cyclones entered the weekend having won 12 straight–their longest active winning streak in the country. The Mountaineers have won nine straight games on their home court against Iowa State going all the way back to the 2015-2016 season.
WVU guard Javon Small scored 27 points and chipped in seven rebounds. He also had seven assists in the win. Aman Hansberry also scored 12 points for West Virginia. The 57 points that Iowa State scored in the loss were the fewest points the Cyclones tallied all season long. Their previous low was 74 points, which came against Kansas and Baylor.

The win was West Virginia’s fourth win of the season over a ranked opponent. The Mountaineers also had wins over Gonzaga, Arizona, and Kansas, but their win over Iowa State was their most impressive showing in their first year of the Darian DeVries era in Morgantown. Javon Small continues to play impressive basketball, scoring in double-figures in every game this year. He has also pumped in five games with at least 20 points since Tucker DeVries got injured.
West Virginia sits at 13-4 overall, which ranks them fourth in the Big 12 Conference. Iowa State now sits at 15-2 overall, ranking them second in the Big 12.
