West Virginia guard Tucker DeVries enters NCAA transfer portal

West Virginia guard Tucker DeVries has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. News of his entry comes just days after his father, Darian DeVries, departed for the head coaching job at Indiana.
DeVries has long played with his father, spending three years with him at Drake before following him to West Virginia. He spent one year with the Mountaineers.
One of the best scorers in the country, Tucker DeVries is capable of lighting it up. He averaged 21.6 points per game in his last season at Drake.
He kept that type of production up at a higher level at West Virginia, showing no signs that the Big 12 might be too big a stage for him. He averaged 14.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in his stint with the Mountaineers.
In addition to those numbers, Tucker DeVries also filled the stat sheet in other areas. He averaged 2.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 blocks per game, though he played in only eight contests.
DeVries suffered an upper-body injury that ended his season after those eight games. He had season-ending surgery in February.
Darian DeVries had indicated during the season that he would apply for a medical redshirt to obtain another year of eligibility. As it stands, he has played in four collegiate seasons now.

Indiana will obviously have to be considered one of the favorites to land Tucker DeVries, though he’d certainly have other opportunities if he wants. He’s a talented enough player to draw significant national interest.
Indiana hires away Darian DeVries
Indiana has hired West Virginia‘s Darian DeVries as its next head coach On3’s Joe Tipton confirmed. DeVries will replace Mike Woodson, who led the program for four seasons but, in February, announced he would be stepping away from the role at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.
DeVries only spent one season at West Virginia. The Mountaineers finished with a 19-13 overall record and a 10-10 mark in conference play this season.
West Virginia burst out the starting gates this season, picking up wins over Gonzaga and Arizona before December. However, disaster struck when Tucker DeVries was forced to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.
Tucker was averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 41.2% from beyond the field and a jaw-dropping 47.3% from beyond the arc. His injury was a major setback to West Virginia’s hot start.
