West Virginia has unveiled its uniform combination for its Week 2 matchup versus Duquesne. The Mountaineers will be wearing a yellow helmet with a gray jersey and gray pants.

It will the be the first time the program has ever worn this uniform combination.

The two teams last faced off almost 90 years ago in 1935. The Dukes won the game 19-0 at Mountaineer Field in Morgantown, W.V. West Virginia finished the season with a 3-4-2 record while Duquesne was 6-3.

The Mountaineers lead the all-time series with a 4-3-2 record.

“Duquesne is a proud program,” West Virginia coach Neal Brown said, via WVUSports.com. “They’ve had several guys over the last three or four years that have been in NFL camps. They beat Ohio University, one of the better group of five programs in the country, in 2021, so it’s a group that we respect.”

The Dukes enter the game with a 1-0 mark in 2023 after defeating Division II Edinboro in their first game of the season.

West Virginia is coming off a 38-15 loss to Penn State in State College, Pa. Garrett Greene threw for 162 yards on 16-for-27 passing with another 71 yards rushing while CJ Donaldson rushed for 81 yards. But the Drew Allar-led Nittany Lions offense was too much for the Mountaineers to handle.

There was some controversy at the end of the game as Penn State, despite being up 16 points, drove down the field at the end of the game to score another touchdown.

“Who cares? Here’s the thing, I took timeouts,” Brown said. “I wouldn’t have done it but it doesn’t bother me. I just think stuff like that comes around and goes around. At some point, it’ll come back around. When? I don’t know. But it doesn’t both me. I’m not upset about it.”

Franklin said he was not trying to run up the score but give his second unit on offense an opportunity to play and not just run out the clock.

“Yeah. I guess everybody looks at it differently, right? For me, I believe that my responsibility in those type of situations is to get my twos in the game. But I think once those twos get in the game, then they deserve the right and the chance to play and compete. That’s what I believe. I believe that from the opening kick to the last whistle, you compete and you play,” Franklin said.
