Four-star QB Mabrey Mettauer gives Christmas Eve commitment to Wisconsin
Mabrey Mettauer made one of the biggest decisions of his life in front of his family around the holidays.
The On3 Consensus four-star 2024 quarterback from The Woodlands (Texas) committed to Wisconsin on Christmas Eve. North Carolina, Kansas State and Baylor were also in the mix with Mettauer, the No. 22-rated quarterback in the country in next year’s recruiting cycle.
First-year Badgers coach Luke Fickell recently reaffirmed his offer to Mettauer, who has and is a top priority for OC Phil Longo, who also courted the Texas passer at North Carolina. He also made stops this fall to North Carolina, Kansas State, Baylor, LSU and TCU for games throughout the fall.
“Definitely seeing all these schools and atmospheres was a blessing, and these schools wanting me has been awesome,” said Mettauer, who was in Madison in September. “We have a good relationship and we’ve talked a few times. My relationship with Coach Longo goes back to UNC and we’ve built that relationship up for a long time. The Wisconsin coaches just stuck out more than the other schools.”
The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder quarterback from The Woodlands accounted for more than 3,000 yards as a junior this season. Mettauer completed 157-236 (67 percent) of his passes for 2,621 yards and 32 touchdowns compared to six interceptions. He tacked on another 600-plus yards on 84 carries (7 YPC) with seven TD and three 100+ yard games.

“I wasn’t expecting Wisconsin to come in so hard because I had a strong relationship with Coach Mack Brown at UNC and I loved UNC, but I love Wisconsin and Big Ten football,” Mettauer said. “It’s the oldest network in college football and right now there are two teams in the Big Ten in the College Football Playoff. It’s a big Big Ten program and Wisconsin fans are diehard.”
“When I was there back in September,” he continued,” I loved the atmosphere. The people there are great. It’s cold, super cold. Playing in it will just get me prepared for the NFL.”
Mettauer is the No. 312 player in the country regardless of position, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
