After a dominant victory over the Purdue Boilermakers at home, Wisconsin Badgers interim head coach Jim Leonhard took some time to answer some questions about his team’s performance on Saturday. Below are the Badgers’ headman postgame comments.
Leonhard, on what he’s seen out of his group on Saturday
“It was great energy, you know. It was awesome to see how we started both halves. We put a lot of pressure on them and that’s what we talked about coming out of halftime; was putting pressure on them making plays, and we did that early and obviously made them more predictable,” said Leonhard.
What he found and Wisconsins’ identity against Purdue
“We’re going to play hard; they’re going to play hard. And the challenge has been playing consistent and executing at a high level in big moments. We did that today, which is a lot of fun. Hopefully, we gain a lot of confidence from it.”
Feeling after Leonhard’s first win in camp Randall Stadium
“That means a lot. I have so much support from the players, fans, coaches, and family. It means so much to me to get a win here in the first one at Camp Randall.”

Leonhard’s first win at Camp Randall
In his first home game as interim head coach, Leonhard had the Badgers firing on all cylinders in every aspect of the game. His defense was able to suffocate and slow down Purdues’ offense, limiting them to just three points in the first half. On offense, Wisconsin ended their first two drives with a touchdown. Both campaigns were greater than 75 yards and displayed an impressive level of balance. In the second half, things continued almost as status quo as the Badgers outscored the Boilermakers 14-7 in the third quarter to take a 35-10 into the fourth. Wisconsin would allow two late touchdowns to Purdue, but by then, the lead was insurmountable.
Wisconsin has a bye week coming up next. Then after that, Leonhard can go for his second straight win at home and on the season when they host the Maryland Terrapins on Nov. 5.
