Luke Fickell on Wisconsin’s 2025 recruiting class: ‘It looks really good’
Wisconsin Badgers head football coach Luke Fickell was recently a guest on the Jim Rome Show, where he discussed his program’s ongoings this offseason.
During the interview, the host picked his brain on his feelings about the Badgers’ future. More specifically, Rome wanted to know how Fickell felt about the incoming crop of recruits from the 2025 recruiting class.
“It looks really good,” Fickell said. “The thing about it is you don’t know what it’s really like until they actually get there. But I think another year within the program, understanding being really intentional on the things you have and the things that you know you need to get to.
“Even being back in the league for a year. Obviously it’s changed immensely; even since he since I joined the league last year. But recognizing the understand what it is that you have, where you got to go, being really intentional and going to recruit that.”
The 2025 Wisconsin recruits have yet to make it on campus, but that does not mean that their head coach is not excited about the class’s promise. According to On3’s recruiting database, Fickell currently has the No. 20 ranked class in the cycle. That list of players includes a handful of high-end four-star recruits, such as cornerback Jaimier Scott, wide receiver Cameron Miller, and Fickells’ top recruit in the class, linebacker Mason Posa.

Fickell updates where Wisconsin QB competition stands entering summer
As Fickell enters his second season at Wisconsin, there is another quarterback competition in front of the head coach. Braedyn Locke could be considered the returning guy, being a part of the program last season. Wisconsin also went and got Tyler Van Dyke out of the NCAA transfer portal, with those two battling.
Assuming Van Dyke would win the job could be easy, but Fickell recently confirmed no decision has been made. Fall camp is where he ultimately decides who takes the first snap of the season opener against Western Michigan.
“There will be,” Fickell said about the competition. “There was an open competition in spring.”
When comparing this year’s battle to last season, Fickell admitted there was a small gap between the two. Tanner Mordecai was Wisconsin’s starter for the majority of 2023 and had plenty of experience between his time at Oklahoma and SMU.
