Luke Fickell shares injury update on Braelon Allen entering Week 12
Wisconsin RB Braelon Allen made a brief return this past weekend from a high ankle sprain. Even so, that doesn’t guarantee that he’ll appear in the Badger’s next matchup according to Luke Fickell.
Fickell addressed Allen’s status during his press conference on Monday. He said that Wisconsin will have to wait over this week in order to determine if their leading rusher can give it a go on Saturday.
“I don’t know. I don’t,” said Fickell. “We’ll have to see.”
“Last week, he didn’t do a bunch and it was going to be a game-time decision,” Fickell added. “We’ll have to see this week. I couldn’t answer that.”
Allen only saw action for a few snaps, enough to post three carries and a reception, on Saturday before he left because, per Fickell, his body didn’t react well to the return.
Then, on Sunday, Fickell wasn’t able to take too much away from Allen’s workload since Wisconsin had a lighter day at this point of the season.
“Obviously, (he) moved around a little bit last night – but we did not do a ton. It wasn’t like we could evaluate a lot of guys on anything that we did last night,” said Fickell. “Normally, we do maybe a little bit more. But, in the last two, three weeks of the season, sometimes Sundays become lighter and lighter and a little bit more mental work”
Allen, the Badger’s junior running back, has 133 carries this season for 757 yards and eight touchdowns. That’s 450 more rushing yards and double the amount of scores as the next closest rusher. 2023 is his third straight campaign in Madison where he leads the team on the ground.

He also 25 catches for an additional 104 yards.
At 5-5 on a stretch of four losses in five games, including three straight defeats, Allen’s health could be very important to help Wisconsin get bowl eligible. Even so, Fickell had no official word yet regarding the health or return of his best back.
“We hope but we’ll have to see,” said Fickell.
