Wisconsin cornerback Jonas Duclona plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced via X on Monday night. Duclona just wrapped up his second season with the Badgers but will be looking to play elsewhere moving forward.

Just four appearances took place for Duclona during the 2024 season. After playing in the opening three, the defensive back last stepped onto the field Oct. 5 against Purdue. This allowed Duclona to take a redshirt and maintain a year of eligibility.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for the opportunities and experiences I’ve had,” Duclona said in a statement. “A special thank you to Coach Fick, Coach Haynes, and the entire University of Wisconsin staff for their unwavering support over the past two years. You have played a huge role in shaping me into the player I am today.

“With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal with three years of legibility remaining, ready for the next chapter of my journey.”

Looking at the stat sheet, just two tackles are there for Duclona this season. Both came in the massive nonconference showdown against Alabama. Duclona was not able to contribute during his three other appearances.

A bigger role was played during the 2023 season but mainly on special teams. Wisconsin sent the then-true freshman out there in all 13 games. Three tackles, two of which were against LSU in the bowl game, were a step in the right direction.

Duclona played high school football at Naples (FL) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 633 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Wisconsin finished the year with a 5-7 record and will not participate in a bowl game. All attention for head coach Luke Fickell has turned to next season. Unfortunately, they will not have a young cornerback such as Duclona on the roster moving forward.
