On Sunday, Wisconsin cornerback Amare Snowden announced he plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Snowden spent two seasons with the Badgers.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God, as he has blessed me with a special gift and talent to play the game I have grown to love,” Snowden wrote. “I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for the experiences and lessons throughout the past two years of my life! I will forever be grateful for the Wisconsin community.

“With that being said, after deep consideration and talking with my family and try to regain my love and confidence back I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal as a redshirt sophomore with 3 years of eligibility left.”

Snowden made one tackle in Wisconsin’s win over Purdue this season. He did not see any action in his true freshman season and ultimately redshirted. As he mentioned, he will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Snowden was initially committed to play at Cincinnati. However, after head coach Luke Fickell left the program to take over at Wisconsin, Snowden flipped his commitment to the Badgers. Snowden chose Wisconsin over CincinnatiColoradoHoward and West Virginia.

After Snowden’s mother died in August, Luke Fickell praised the young defensive back for his resilience.

“I try to put myself in his shoes and I don’t know how I would handle it and he’s been really solid,” Fickell said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “When you know a kid you can see the ups and the downs and it’s not always by performance. It has a lot to do with body language and facial expressions, but he has done an unbelievable job.”
