Wisconsin forward Xavier Amos enters NCAA transfer portal

Wisconsin forward Xavier Amos has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He does so after spending just one year with the Badgers.
Amos initially began his career at Northern Illinois. He then transferred to Wisconsin after spending two years with the Huskies.
While he didn’t have quite the impact at Wisconsin that he did at Northern Illinois in his sophomore season, Amos still provided some valuable minutes. He averaged 9.7 minutes per contest, chipping in 3.5 points and 1.8 assists per game this season for the Badgers.
Prior to that, though, Xavier Amos had an outstanding sophomore season at Northern Illinois. During the 2023-24 season, Amos started 25 games in 25 appearances.
He averaged 13.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 1.2 assists and 0.8 steals per game. That earned him a look at the high-major level.
Now it’ll be interesting to see which direction Amos heads. Does he stay at the high-major level of does he look to drop down again where he has the potential to post bigger numbers?
Before he enrolled at Northern Illinois, Xavier Amos was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 134 overall recruit in his class by the On3 Industry Rankings. He also checked in as the No. 31 power forward in the class.

Wisconsin adds one from the transfer portal
While Xavier Amos is likely headed out, Wisconsin has also made some additions through the transfer portal. That’s the nature of the sport these days.
San Diego State Aztecs point guard guard Nick Boyd has committed to transfer to the Wisconsin Badgers, On3 has learned. The Badgers will be the third team he’s played for in his college career after starting with the FAU Owls.
Boyd spent the first four years of his college career at FAU under head coach Dusty May. That included the pandemic-impacted season and a second season when he chose to utilize his redshirt. When May left for Michigan, the Owls saw several players transfer out of the program. That included Boyd, who landed at San Diego State for the 2024-25 season where he would go on to be an All-Mountain West selection.
Nick Boyd would start in all 31 games he played in for San Diego State this past season, averaging 29.9 minutes per game. He had previously started in 51 out of 88 career games with FAU. In his season with the Aztecs, he averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. He also shot 41.1 percent from the field, 35.1 percent from three-point range, and 74.6 percent from the free-throw line. On the defensive end, he had 1.0 steals per game.
On3’s Dan Morrison also contributed to this report.
