Wisconsin guard Johnny Davis won the Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award, per a press release on Friday afternoon. He averaged 19.7 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game and 2.1 assists per game this season, while shooting 42.7 percent from the field. The honor is just one of many that Davis is bound to pile up following his spectacular 2021-2022 college basketball season. He was also named a consensus first team All-American.

The Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award is named after Hall of Fame head coach Lute Olson and is presented annually to the top player in Division I college basketball. A college basketball coaching legend, Olson won 776 games in 34 seasons, 24 of which were spent with the Arizona Wildcats.

Davis guided the Badgers to a 25-8 overall record and a Big Ten regular season championship. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound sophomore erupted for three 30-point games, including a 37-point masterpiece against the Purdue Boilermakers on Jan. 3.

This season, he doubled his output from last year in two major categories: points per game and rebounds per game. Davis helped to carry the Badgers all the way to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament this year, where they were ousted 54-49 by the Iowa State Cyclones. Among numerous other accolades, he was also named the 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year.

Davis earned AP All-American honors and, on Wednesday, was also named a Wendy’s All-American this season. He’s also a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year award, which will be announced April 3 during the Final Four in New Orleans.

In On3’s Jamie Shaw’s Mock Draft 2.0 earlier in March, he projected Davis to go No. 8 overall. There’s a lot left to decide, though, as the NBA Draft Lottery is coming up May 17 to determine the draft order. The NBA Draft is set for June 23 in Brooklyn, NY.
