Wisconsin was hit with a major ejection during their showdown with Purdue on Saturday, as Badgers guard Kamari McGee controversially tossed after hitting Boilermakers forward Trey Kaufman-Renn in the groin area.

Whether it was intentional or not didn’t matter, as the officials hit McGee with a Flagrant Two, ending his afternoon during the first half of the Big Ten clash. Check out the incident below, shared to X by The Field of 68, and decide for yourself whether an ejection was warranted or not.

The ejection is certainly a frustrating one for McGee, as he’s been a prime contributor off the bench for the Badgers throughout the season. He’s averaging 7.2 points per game at the moment, his highest mark yet over his three-year tenure with the Wisconsin.

Additionally, the call was flamed on social media by a number of personalities, including CBS’s John Fanta, who called for a change of the rules incase a similar situation happens during the NCAA Tournament: “What happens in an NCAA Tournament game if we end up in the similar situation that JT Toppin and Kamari McGee have been in?” Fanta posted on X, following the ejection.

“I know officials have rules to adjudicate and understand their roles. But to be ejecting players for what those two did is atrocious. Change the rules.”

Alas, it’ll be up to McGee’s teammates to finish the job against Purdue. The game is sure to have a huge ripple effect within the Big Ten, as both the Boilermakers and the Badgers are sitting on 19 wins at the moment, with Purdue having an extra loss on their record, as well.

Coming into the game, Wisconsin had won their past three games, and were in the middle of a run where they’ve emerged victorious in four of their last five games. Teams like Iowa, Indiana and Northwestern have all fallen at their feet, and the Badgers are hoping to make Purdue pay next, inside Mackey Arena in West Lafayette.

On the other hand, Purdue was all the way up to No. 7 in the AP Poll following their incredible play over the past few weeks, but they’ll surely be taking a hit come Monday, after falling to Michigan on the road earlier this week. They can’t afford another loss. Even though Wisconsin is ranked at the moment, two Ls in the span of a couple of days is never a good sign for a top ten squad.

Time will tell if Wisconsin can get the job done without Kamari McGee, who might have a bone to pick with Big Ten officials moving forward. Regardless, these are two of the best teams in the conference at the moment, and whoever wins will notch a great, resume-building victory moving forward.
