Personal Life
The Houston Baptist offense set the 2020 college football world on fire. Bailey Zappe threw for 1,833 yards in just four games. This included a 576-yard, four-touchdown performance in a 35-33 loss to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were 40-point favorites over FCS Houston Baptist. And while the Huskies couldn’t pull off the upset, Zappe did break the record for most passing yards by an FCS player against an FBS team. At the end of the season, offensive coordinator Zach Kittley was hired to Western Kentucky, and Zappe plus three Houston Baptist wide receivers followed him. Zappe — who was a four-year starter at Houston Baptist — chose Western Kentucky over schools such as Tennessee, Texas Tech, Notre Dame and South Carolina. It was a big difference from his recruiting experience out of Victoria (Texas) Victoria East. Despite throwing for 7,011 yards and 79 touchdowns — plus 871 yards and 18 scores on the ground — over his last two seasons, Zappe had only one offer out of high school. He is the son of Sammie and Michael Zappe. He studied sports medicine at Houston Baptist.
