Booker Pickett Scouting Summary

Charles Power

1/31/24

Prolific sack artist who is one of the more dangerous speed rushers in the 2024 cycle. Has unverified size, looking to be around 6-foot-3.5, 210 pounds. Owns some of the best first-step quickness among EDGE prospects in the cycle. Flies off the edge. Shows outstanding bend, dipping his shoulder to get around offensive tackles. Very advanced from a technique perspective. Has quick and polished hands. Swipes to avoid engagement. Has pass rush moves, including a spin. Plays with an outstanding effort level. Tracks down plays from the backside. One of the more productive pass rushers in the cycle. Tallied 23 tackles for loss and 16 sacks as a senior. Notched 76 sacks over his four-year varsity career. Turned in a show-stopping performance at the Under Armour All-America Game as a senior. Will need to continue adding mass and strength to hold up against the run. Younger for the cycle, turning 18 years-old in June prior to his freshman season of college.

At an event rife with EDGE prospects, no pass rusher was more dynamic than Booker Pickett. A pure speed rusher, the future Hurricane gave his Team Ice offensive line fits in practice and transferred that over to the game where he dominated the Team Fire tackles to the tune of 2 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2 hurries and a forced fumble. Pickett pairs outstanding first step quickness and snap timing with polished pass rush skill. He’s a flexible edge bender and has quick, advanced hands. Pickett effectively makes himself skinny and difficult to block. Pair that skill level with a high motor and you have a prolific pass rusher. There’s no question he’ll need to add size to his frame, but the physical traits translated against top competition. It’s easy to see why Pickett had a startling 76 sacks in his high school career.
