Scouting Journals for Brandon Inniss

Developed, competitive wide receiver who has been on the national radar dating back to middle school. Emerged as a college prospect while playing on varsity as an eighth grader. Possesses a filled-out frame at around 5-foot-11.5, 195 pounds with a 29.75-inch arm. Has a technically advanced skill set with quickness both in his releases and at the top of his routes. Can break off defensive backs with his change of direction. Extremely competitive and embraces matchups with other top prospects. A standout on the camp and 7-on-7 circuit. Tests as a good athlete in the combine setting. Not as productive as some other top receivers as a junior in part due to being forced to play quarterback for part of the season. Rebounded with a very productive senior season, catching 73 passes for 1,336 yards and 15 touchdowns. Lacks length, which naturally limits his catch radius, but has shown strong, reliable hands and the ability to win in contested situations. Fights for yardage after the catch. More of a choppy than smooth mover. Does not appear to have the physical upside of most other top-ranked wide receivers but is a high-floor prospect who should be set up to contribute early in his college career.

Brandon Inniss was the most-targeted wide receiver over the course of the week in San Antonio. His target share throughout the week climbed each day as the quarterbacks – Dante Moore in particular – became more and more comfortable feeding him the football. When all was said and done, Inniss led the receiving group in targets and catches. The South Florida native primarily worked out of the slot and was often targeted on underneath passes and screens. He made the most of those looks by turning upfield and bowling through would-be tacklers. He also showed the ability to separate at the line of scrimmage during 7-on-7 and 1-on-1 periods. Inniss carried this over to the game, when he stacked Notre Dame cornerback signee Micah Bell off the line before coming down with a touchdown from Moore on a corner route. Other wide receivers in attendance have more projectable physical tools, but Inniss’ competitive nature and reliability made him a favorite target over the course of the week.

Brandon Inniss nabs the final spot over some other strong contenders on the heels of his play on Sunday for the champion South Florida Express squad. For one, Inniss wins the award as the most competitive player on the field at OT7. Nobody took this event more seriously and it showed on the field. The 5-foot-11.5, 190-pounder probably had the most receptions of any receiver. He did most of his damage on underneath routes and showed a good awareness for finding open space in the defenses, often sitting down against zone coverage. With that said, we did see Inniss make a few downfield plays, including a touchdown on a double move against On300 Texas A&M cornerback commit Jayvon Thomas.
