Brynn McGaughy
Personal Life
Brynn McGaughy is the definition of a small-town hero, and it's a badge of honor she gladly wears. As a sophomore in high school, McGaughy led Colfax, a small town near Pullman, to a 28-0 record. And through her first two seasons of high school hoops, McGaughy won state player of the year honors and helped her school win a title and finish second. “I think a lot of girls at my level – if they’re at a small school or just even high school – they’re looking to go to a prep school or an academy, which I fully respect," McGaughy told Spokane.com. "But the friendships I’ve made here, and the community that has loved me so much has helped me stay here.” And even though McGaughy played the role of a big fish in a small pond, her high school coach said she didn't have an ego and it was a "blessing" to coach her. "That is a testament to the kid that she is," Colfax Corey Baerlocher said. "She does not have an ego and she doesn’t have a big head and I think that’s what makes her ‘the unicorn’ – that is what we call her – just because this is home and she’s not bigger than it.”
