Scouting Journals for CJ Carr

CJ Carr Scouting Summary

Charles Power

6/12/23

Polished quarterback with a technically developed skill set. Measured at around 6-foot-2.5, 195 pounds prior to his senior season. Hand size has measured between 9.25 and 9.5 inches. Registers as average athlete with good quickness, running a 4.94 second 40-yard dash, 4.26 second shuttle and jumping 26.7 inches in the vertical at the Elite 11 regional. Has a quick, easy release that is easily replicated. Consistently spins the ball well, throwing a tight spiral. Shows the ability to layer the ball and throw with touch. Flashes functional movement skills and reactive quickness in the pocket. Capable of making off-script plays at times. Looks most comfortable in neutral, on-air settings at this stage. Completed 68.1% of his passes for 2,685 yards and 26 touchdowns against 5 interceptions. Plays in a high school offense that features a high percentage of short, quick passes. Can increase decisiveness as a player on Friday nights as his arm strength tends to show up more in neutral settings. Showed some signs of improvement late in his junior season but can improve his efficiency as a passer with his 8.2 yards per attempt being on the low end among 2024 blue-chip quarterbacks.

CJ Carr shows polish at Elite 11 Finals

Charles Power

6/16/23

CJ Carr was certainly among the most technically polished quarterbacks on hand at the Elite 11 Finals. The Notre Dame pledge was very comfortable in drill work and in his pro day session. He’s able to easily replicate his natural throwing motion over and over. When operating on rhythm, he was also among the most accurate quarterbacks on hand. We saw this during his pro day session and again on Day 3 in the accuracy competition. Carr faltered a bit when things went live in 7-on-7 taking three sacks during his period. He also had a tendency to take some juice off his throws when defensive backs were added to the equation. There’s no question Carr is highly polished when operating within structure and he has the potential to continue to improve as he gets more comfortable in open, live settings.
