As a Recruit
Personal Life
Darnell Washington was a two-sport star coming out of Las Vegas Desert Pines in the 2020 recruiting class. He could have played college basketball, but he chose to go the football route. He developed into one of the nation’s most heavily recruited players – earning an On3 Consensus five-star ranking and a spot as the second-rated tight end in the country. Washington visited Georgia, Tennessee, Miami, Alabama and Florida before picking the Bulldogs. Washington took a little while to make a huge impact for the Dawgs after battling some injuries. But when he finally made an impact, it was a big one. Washington’s first touchdown came in the SEC Championship game against Alabama. Entering the 2022 season, Washington saw his stock rise as a top-draft candidate. UGA coaches and players call him the “total package” because of his ability to block and elevate to make tough catches. “Dude is unbelievable,” UGA quarterback Stetson Bennett said. “He’s a mismatch everywhere. He weighs whatever he weighs, but he’s like 6-8, 6-7 and can run like we run, the little dudes. He can catch like little dudes but he’s 6-7, 280. You can’t cover him with a DN. He’s unbelievable.”
