Scouting Journals for Devin Brown

Devin Brown Scouting Summary

Charles Power

10/28/21

One of the more live-armed passers in the 2022 cycle. Generates considerable zip on the ball with the ability to drive throws downfield and from the far hash to the boundary. The ball pops out of his hand and comes in hot. Stretches the field vertically with his considerable arm strength. May have the most high-level, small window throws of any 2022 quarterback as a senior. At his best when he can sit back in the pocket and push the ball vertically. Has light feet with average to above average mobility. Transferred from the Phoenix area to Utah powerhouse Corner Canyon for his senior season. Is putting up big passing numbers as a senior. Has a bit of a gunslinger mentality, leading to a higher interception total. Can miss read defenders, leading to picks. Showing some more rushing ability in the red zone as a senior. Put forth a strong showing at the Elite 11 Finals prior to his senior season.

Brown made a big move from No. 63 to 27 in the latest ranking. The USC verbal commitment that has made visits to Ole Miss, Texas and Ohio State put together a tremendous campaign. Brown displayed the ability to make every throw. He passed for 4,881 yards and 57 touchdowns in 14 games and added 430 rushing yards and eight scores. Brown’s high school career ended with 386 passing yards and 103 rushing yards in a 49-42 loss to Lone Peak.

Devin Brown had one of his best games of the season, completing 27 of 36 passes for 347 yards and five touchdowns along with another rushing score in a quarterfinal win. Brown is one of the top arm talents in the 2022 cycle in our opinion and continued to look worthy of that praise on Friday. The top 100 prospect has considerable velocity on his throws and is capable of ripping the football into small windows downfield.

Devin Brown made the move from the Phoenix area to Utah powerhouse Corner Canyon for his senior season. Corner Canyon has become a juggernaut in recent years, particularly on offense. That is to say, it should not be a huge surprise that Brown is putting up some prolific passing numbers as a senior. Aside from the high interception count (averaging over one per game), Brown is operating the Corner Canyon offense at a high level. Brown is a strong-armed passer with and throws a tight, clean ball. He's best when operating within structure at this point.

Devin Brown was our top overall performer at the Elite 11 Finals. The USC commit was consistently good over the event’s four days. Brown was the biggest revelation on Day 1. The Arizona native flashed a quick throwing motion and was able to generate considerable zip on his passes to all levels. The ball came out of his hand quick and hot. Brown also consistently spun the ball the best of the group on Day 1, making for a strong first impression. The one area where he was a bit behind a few of the other top performers on the first day was in his ability to layer passes. Brown often resorted to throwing fastballs, which he certainly can. He was also a top performer on Day 2, catching fire in his Pro Day session. While some of the quarterbacks saw their play dip in 7-on-7, Brown continued to show well and was among the best in that setting. Brown’s throws cut through the air – he spins the ball very well on a throw-to-throw basis with little wobble. He also showed some ball-handling and footwork skills while operating from under center.
