Gus Hawkins Scouting Summary

Charles Power

1/31/24

Fluid, coordinated offensive tackle with advanced run blocking skills and markers of a high developmental upside. Has a big frame, measuring in at over6-foot-6, 285 pounds as a senior. Owns length with a 6-foot-11 wing-span. Put on considerable weight over his final two years of high school, beginning his career as a tight end and defensive end before growing into an offensive tackle as a junior. Lines up at left tackle. One of the more fluid and flexible tackles in the 2024 cycle. Plays with outstanding leverage and pad level. An easy mover to the second level. Uses his length and core power to get a significant push in the run game. Film took a jump as a senior. Able to make a variety of reach and pull blocks. Coordinated and looks to understand technique. Plays in a run heavy offense and is not asked to pass block often. Will need to develop in that regard, but has the movement skills to be good in pass protection with coaching and improvement. An all-state basketball player as a sophomore, showing fluidity, coordination and light feet.

Gus Hawkins a riser in final On300 rankings

Kansas State offensive tackle signee Gus Hawkins (No. 52) was a big upward mover at the position, given the strides he showed as a senior. At over 6-foot-6, 285 pounds with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, Hawkins has transformed his body over the past two years after transitioning to offensive line. The senior film, particularly as a run blocker, is outstanding. A light-footed, fluid athlete who doubles as a basketball star, Hawkins fits the profile of a high upside offensive tackle prospect.
