Notre Dame Fighting Irish
As a Recruit
Personal Life
Joe Alt has offensive line success in his DNA. His father, John, played on the offensive line at Iowa and was a first-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984. His father was a two-time Pro Bowl pick and a member of the Chiefs Hall of Fame. “Having his background has been very helpful for me, and he’s taught me so much,” Alt told Pro Football Focus. “But there’s always a little pressure. Obviously, he was a great player and did a lot. Now I have the lineage, so I want to continue that.” Alt was a four-star recruit and the sixth-best prospect coming out of Minnesota in the 2021 recruiting class. After starring at Minneapolis's Totino-Grace High School, Alt played in 13 games at Notre Dame during his true freshman season at both tight end and offensive line. By his sophomore season, he developed into one of the top left tackles in college football. He started all 13 games and helped the Irish average 4.6 yards per carry in 2022. His success helped him land first-team All-America honors from the AP and numerous other media outlets during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
