As a College Recruit

Versatile linebacker prospect who can get to the quarterback, make plays behind the line of scrimmage and cover in the open field. Primarily plays as an edge defender but has the ideal frame and length to play as an off-ball linebacker. Measures in at 6-foot-2, 225 pounds with a 6-foot-7 wingspan. Solid long speed and ability to cover sideline to sideline. Ran an impressive 4.68 40-yard dash and jumped a 9-foot-5 broad jump during the summer camp circuit prior to his senior season. Detonates on contact, extremely explosive at the point of attack. More reactionary than proactive as a player. Should develop instincts and field vision as he gets more reps as an off-ball player. Projects as a will linebacker at the next level that can also act as a designated blitzer or edge rusher in subpackages. High ceiling prospect due to his body and athleticism, best ball is ahead of him.

Jonathan Bax's strong senior season continues vs. top competition

Sam SpiegelmanNational Recruiting Analyst

Hybrid LB Jonathan Bax had another stellar outing in a tough battle with LSU OT commit Tyree Adams in New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr’s district opener against St. Augustine. Bax is electric off the ball and has outstanding hands and bend to give opposing tackles fits. Bax had another action-filled night slowing down the run game and sealing off the edge, while also generating consistent pressure off the edge. His versatility is catching attention around the state.

Jonathan Bax is a force vs. Warren Easton

Sam SpiegelmanNational Recruiting Analyst

Jonathan Bax continues to show out during the first month of his senior season. Bax, a top performer at various live evaluations this offseason, was masterful flying off the edge for Karr. Playing with his hand in the dirt and a stand-up linebacker, Bax has special first-step quickness and is wasting little time getting to the quarterback this fall. He picked up two sacks, three TFL and had a few more hits and pressures along the way, and was also dropping back in coverage. The well-rounded skill-set reminds me of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen.
