KJ Lewis was the most heralded prospect to come out of the El Paso, Texas, area ever since the late Cliff Tucker. Lewis earned all-state honors as a junior after helping Chapin reach the regional semifinals for the second straight year and a second straight District 1-5A championship. He was also a finalist for the Mr. Texas Basketball Player of the Year selected by Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball magazine. Lewis averaged 24.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals and four assists per game as a sophomore, and put up 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 steals and 1.8 assists per game as a junior.
