Richland coach Ged Kates isn't afraid to complement Michael Turner because he knows Turner won't let it go his head. “Michael has always looked like a grown man, but in his junior season, he played like one," Kates told the Dallas Morning News. "His ability is through the roof, but I’m just as proud of his giving heart and the kind of teammate that he has become.” Turner earned first-team all-district honors as a sophomore after a season where he ran for 849 yards and 12 touchdowns. Then as a junior, Turner exploded with 1,625 yards and 22 rushing scores. Through his first three seasons of varsity football, he averaged 7.8 yards per carry and reached the end zone 36 times.
