Mike Matthews a top performer at Under Armour Atlanta camp

Charles Power

Mike Matthews was a standout at Under Armour Atlanta for the second straight year. The two-sport star was clearly one of the top three pass catchers on hand and turned in some very impressive reps in 1-on-1’s. Matthews is a smooth, coordinated athlete with the ability to make high-level plays on the ball. His highlight of the day came on a rep against 2025 defensive back Naeem Offord – our top defender from the day. Matthews fought through strong coverage from Offord and tracked the ball over his right shoulder for a diving catch in the corner of the end zone.

Mike Matthews moves up in On3 rankings

Charles Power

Mike Matthews‘ moved up to No. 9 overall in the midseason update to the 2024 On300. He was among On3’s top performers at the loaded Overtime OT7 7-on-7 tournament back in June. If there was any doubt Matthews was a top 2024 prospect, that’s been erased by his showing as a junior at Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview. The two-way star has blossomed as a wide receiver prospect over the past six months. While he was initially being recruited by some programs as a safety, we see his highest upside being at receiver. Matthews has shown ball elite ball skills in multiple settings. His long arms, bounce and coordination make for a pure ball winner. We’ve seen Matthews make big plays against top competition as a junior, catching 25 passes for 633 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games.

Mike Matthews shows high-end ball skills in season opener

Charles Power

Mike Matthews showed off his advanced coordination and functional athleticism on Wednesday night in his junior season opener. The Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview standout was completely dominant in the first-half of a blowout win, making a number of impressive grabs in rainy conditions. Matthews easily beat man coverage on two touchdown grabs, elevated for an interception in traffic and tracked a wet football over his shoulder on a long reception. He finished with six catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns and the interception.

Mike Matthews a top performer at Overtime OT7 7-on-7

Charles Power

Mike Matthews had a breakout showing on Saturday at OT7, earning On3 MVP honors on the third day of action. Similar to Jurrion Dickey, we came away thinking Matthews showed a very promising skill set at receiver, highlighted by some downright dominant moments. Matthews may have had the best ball skills on hand, which is saying something considering the number of top pass catchers in Las Vegas bordered on ridiculous. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has noticeably long arms to go with vertical leaping ability and coordination. He’s also quick in confined spaces and has some upside as a route-runner. The Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview standout is actually being recruited as a safety by some programs and says he doesn’t currently prefer one side of the ball. With that said, it’s hard to see Matthews make the plays he did at receiver and not be tantalized by his upside on offense.
