Monroe Freeling Scouting Summary

Charles Power

4/08/22

Physically-gifted offensive tackle prospect who pairs an elite frame with high-end athleticism. Has the best combination of frame, flexibility and functional movement skills among the strong offensive line group in the 2023 cycle. Grew to around 6-foot-7, 295 pounds prior to his senior season. Has plus length to go with the stature, checking in with a 7-foot wing-span and arms that measure over 34 inches. A fluid, flexible mover on the field. Moves as well as any top offensive lineman in the cycle. Tests very well in the combine setting and is a dunker on the hardwood. Flashes his high-end reactive quickness as a run and pass blocker. Has some dominant moments when working to the second level. Added strength as a senior showing increased finishing ability. Also doubled as a disruptive defensive tackle, with the ability to take over games on that side of the ball. Will need to refine his pass set at the college level. Looked like the top offensive line prospect in the cycle after a strong week at the All-American Bowl.

We view the 2023 cycle to be very strong along the offensive line. Georgia offensive tackle signee Monroe Freeling (No. 7) comes in at the top of the position group. Freeling has what we feel is the best senior video among the offensive tackles and backed that up by looking like the top lineman in what was a loaded group at the All-American Bowl. The Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Oceanside Collegiate star has elite flexibility and movement skills at 6-foot-7, 295 pounds. He also added functional strength and explosive power as a senior.

The All-American Bowl was loaded with offensive line talent. We view the offensive line to be among the strongest position groups in the 2023 cycle. Many of the top blockers were on hand in San Antonio. Monroe Freeling had the best week among the deep group, showing highly projectable physical and athletic skills to go with a great showing while working at left tackle for the East. Freeling’s combination of frame, length and elite flexibility showed through as he had the best showing among the left tackles in 1-on-1’s and in team periods throughout the week. The 6-foot-7, 295-pounder has continued to add functional strength to his high-end movement skills and showed the ability to anchor in pass protection and create a push in the run game.

Monroe Freeling impressed on both sides of the ball in his Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Oceanside Collegiate team’s win over previously undefeated Sumter (S.C.) High. The 6-foot-7.5, 285-pounder looked like one of the more physically-gifted offensive line prospects in the 2023 cycle, in what looks to be a strong crop at the position. Freeling lined up at left tackle on offense and showed outstanding flexibility and movement skills. He’s loose and natural in his stance and is a bouncy, light-footed athlete. Freeling effortlessly moves to the second level. Though he can continue improving the pass set technique, we did not see the Bulldog pledge tested in pass protection. Freeling also played a significant number of snaps as a defensive lineman and was largely unblockable. He notched a key sack on a 4th down early in the game and later forced an interception with a hit on the quarterback.

Monroe Freeling an On3 Outlier

8/03/22

Monroe Freeling is an On3 Outlier entering his senior season. He has a prototypical combination of frame and athleticism at offensive tackle. The Mount Pleasant (S.C.) Oceanside Collegiate lineman is a lean 6-foot-7, 285 pounds with a wing-span over 7-feet and 11 inch hands. Freeling is a plus athlete at the position with quick feet, functional movement skills and some rare bounce for an offensive lineman. There’s continued room for growth as he continues to add strength and hones his pass set. While Freeling may not be quite as far along as some other top offensive linemen, the physical upside is among the highest in the 2023 cycle.

While offensive lineman jumped out with a truly dominant performance from start to finish, the group featured a number of big-framed athletes. Monroe Freeling gets the slightest of nods for the final spot here due to his showing in drills. The 6-foot-6, 280-pounder has a lean, well-proportioned build and showed the best feet among the group. Freeling took a pair of 1-on-1 reps as a guard against a 6-foot defensive lineman that he might want back. But we still liked his overall body of work on the day.
