As a Recruit
Personal Life
Nisine “Wooga” Poplar was a four-star recruit and ranked in the top 110 in the country when he was coming out of Philadelphia Math, Civics and Sciences Charter School in the 2021 recruiting class. He picked Miami over offers from Auburn, Georgetown, Georgia, LSU, Marquette, Maryland, Seton Hall and others. During his freshman season, Poplar averaged 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds. Yet, Poplar had a breakout 2022-2023 season, averaging 8.7 points and 2.4 points. He was also a central figure in the Hurricanes’ run to the Final Four. In the Sweet 16, Poplar had 11 points and four rebounds in the upset over No. 1 seed Houston. He then came through clutch with 16 points and six rebounds in the win over Texas to advance to the Final Four. “He’s a terrific young man, he’s getting better and better at both ends of the court,” Miami coach Jim Larranaga said.
