As a Recruit
Personal Life
Quinn Ewers arrived on the Forty Acres with a resume few could match from the high school ranks. Ewers, who was also known for his golden mullet, ranked as the No. 1 recruit in 2022 recruiting class before reclassifying to the 2021 class and enrolling early at Ohio State before eventually transferring to the Longhorns. But even with the resume, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian knew Ewers needed some time to develop. “When he first got here, really that was his true freshman year," Sarkisian said. "Remember, he graduated high school a year early. So, then he gets here and it’s like getting used to being a college quarterback. And then coming out of year one." But Ewers figured things out – finishing the 2023 season with 3,479 yards passing and 22 touchdowns while leading the Longhorns to the College Football Playoffs. “He needed to figure out what is the discipline that’s needed to be a quarterback," Sarkisian said. "Change in his diet. Cutting his hair. What is that? And now, going into year three with us, the biggest thing I see out of Quinn now more than ever, is the leadership. It’s been this process. Learning a system. What it’s like to be in college. And then, OK, growing up in year two. And now year three, you can feel this is his team and he has a chance to be one of the best we've ever had here at Texas.”
