Saboor Karriem
Illinois
Recruiting Class of 2023
As a College Recruit
Rangy two-way player with some of the best pure ball skills and largest catch radius in the 2023 cycle. Lines up at defensive back and wide receiver at the high school level and could project on either side of the ball in college. Tall, long prospect, measuring in at 6-foot-3.5, 177 pounds with a 6-foot-6.5 wing-span prior to his senior season. Transferred high schools prior to his senior season and turned in a big final campaign. Consistently flashes high end if not elite ball skills on both sides of the ball. Elevates and plucks the ball at its highest point in traffic. Combination of plus length and coordination makes for one of the purest catchers of the football in the 2023 cycle. A fluid, nimble mover after the catch, particularly for a taller receiver. Also shows the ball skills on defense in addition to a physical edge. A strong striker who drives through the ball carrier. Lowers his shoulder and makes big hits. Has upside on defense but may have a higher ceiling as a receiver due to the rare ball skills and overall coordination. Long speed appears to be adequate but can benefit from improvements in that area. A younger prospect for the 2023 cycle, not turning 17 years-old until July prior to his senior year.
Reminds Us Of
Saboor Karriem has true two-way potential as a wide receiver or cornerback. Though he may have more upside as a receiver, Karriem is expected to begin his college career on defense. He reminds us a bit of Nnamdi Asomugha as a very tall, long cornerback with high-end ball skills and coordination.
