As a College Recruit

Stephon Castle is a gamer. The 6-foot-6 guard is at his best when the ball is tipped and the bright lights are on. After a prep career that saw Castle playing exclusively on-ball. He proved to be an excellent connector and secondary ball-handler for UConn this season. As a big-framed guard, Castle is able to touch the paint consistently off the bounce and he makes good reads in traffic. The jump shot is the swing skill. He has never been a knockdown shooter, but this season he was consistently below average from three. On the positive side, the form looks ok and he shot over 75 percent from the free throw line on the season. There are positive markers. Where Castle shined was on defense. He used his big frame, instincts, and toughness to guard up and down a lineup. A secondary ball-handler, who is a quick processor, and perhaps the best perimeter defender in this draft has a lot of upside…if the jump shot can come around

The ball skills and the reads were the takeaway with Stephon Castle throughout the week. Listed on the roster at 6-6, he is built like a wing, but he made his biggest impact - as he does in travel ball and in high school - playing on the ball. Castle touched the paint with balance and he sprayed good passes across the floor, not forcing anything. While he made a couple jump shots in the scrimmage portion, would like to see that continue to tighten up. Castle was a disruptive defender both in small-sided and 5-on-5 games.

Stephon Castle plays with a great pace. Has good positional size for a wing. Comfortable on the ball, in the half-court. Hunts his spots on the floor, and attacks them. Is strong on the ball, can take a bump, and get to his spots. The shot can get a little flat, but he is able to still affect the game. Very good in passing lanes. Average to above average athlete, but has a toughness about him. Can touch the paint. Attacks rim with purpose.

Finished with 30 points on 7 of 21 from the field and 15 of 16 from the FT line. Had 5 steals, 4 rebounds, 3 assists.
