As a College Recruit

Do-it-all star at safety and quarterback who projects as a linebacker long-term. One of the more violent defenders in the 2023 cycle. Rare ability to run the alley and knock ball carriers into a different dimension. Explosive at the point of contact. Totalled 103 tackles and 12.5 tackles for loss on the defensive side of the ball during his junior season. Lined up under center running the veer offense and carried the ball for 494 yards and 3 touchdowns. Returns punts and kicks as well. Lacks ideal top end speed and ability to get from sideline to sideline. Clocked in a 24.56 200m during his junior track and field season. Ran a 7.52 60m and jumped just under 37 feet in the triple jump during his sophomore season. Diagnoses and triggers downfield tremendously. Makes plays behind the line of scrimmage consistently. Struggles to flip his hips and change direction when working in open space. Projects to a pure box player at the next level if he maintains his hip stiffness. If he can enhance his ability to play in coverage and work in space he has the chance to become a top 150 draft pick. One of the older prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Tackett Curtis scores twice in playoff win

Sam SpiegelmanNational Recruiting Analyst

Tackett Curtis got the start under center for Many and called his own number to tote the rock on several occasions. At 6-foot-2.5 and north of 220 pounds, the USC commit is built to run through would-be tacklers and is a force to bring down in space for opposing defenses. A first-half touchdown run was called back after Curtis dispelled several defenders en route to the end zone in which he looked unstoppable going up against a host of Richwood players. Curtis’ two second-half touchdowns came with more tough runs and another in which the USC commit got loose and turned on the jets. The same athleticism is on display defensively, too. Playing in the middle on the defense about 10 yards off the line of scrimmage and a traditional inside backer, Curtis flies to the football and has fantastic closing speed. The Consensus top-10 LB is not only a sure tackler, but wraps up with authority. His downhill style opens up the door for turnovers and momentum-altering plays on defense. Curtis is one of the best linebacker prospects that’s come through Louisiana in several years and has shown a flare for coming up with timely plays on both sides of the ball in critical moments, particularly as a senior against Arch Manning’s Newman team and early in this postseason.

Tackett Curtis comes through in marquee showdown vs. Arch Manning, Newman

Sam SpiegelmanNational Recruiting Analyst

Tackett Curtis started as the Tigers’ quarterback, punt returner and plays a hybrid ROVER role on defense where he’s all-but quarterbacking from a high safety role 10 yards off the ball. In that role, Curtis is brilliant. He’s an old-school linebacker that comes downhill at 100 mph and takes direct paths to the ball and punishes ball-carriers like a MACK truck upon collision. Curtis checks in at 6-foot-2.5 and 220 pounds and can cover ground out to the flat and is a strong open-field tackler. He also made big plays blitzing up the gut and off the edge. Curtis plays with outstanding instincts on the defensive side of the ball and his big plays toting the rock and in the return game is an encouraging sign as he’s asked to drop back in coverage more at the next level.
