More on the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament

South Dakota State’s victory wasn’t the only upset of Saturday’s Round of 64 slate. No. 9 seed Mississippi State took down No. 8 seed Cal 59-46 after seizing control in the first half.

Mississippi State took a single-digit lead into halftime of Saturday’s first-round game against Cal, but was able to keep its foot on the gas after the break. The Bulldogs held the Golden Bears to just over 25% shooting in the second half en route to the 59-46 victory to advance in the NCAA Tournament.

Otherwise, chalk prevailed for the most part in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. All No. 1 and No. 2 seeds advanced – some in huge fashion with blowout wins – as the bracket continues to move along.

Sunday marks the first day of the Round of 32, with eight games throughout the day. That’s when teams will begin punching their tickets to the Sweet Sixteen, which gets underway next week.
