Angel Reese attempts to recruit Gabby Williams to Chicago Sky, Williams declines
The Chicago Sky selected French Olympic star Gabby Williams with the fourth pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft. She left the W after the 2022 season to focus on her career abroad — and two years later she almost helped her country beat the most dominant team in Olympic history on her home soil.
Williams’ performance drew the attention of current Sky forward, 2024 first-round pick Angel Reese. The two had an interesting interaction on social media after the nail-biting finish to the Olympic gold medal game.
“Ok now that the game is over, would you like to be apart of the chicago sky again???” Reese asked Williams.
Oh? Williams certainly proved that she can compete with the best in the WNBA based on her perofmrance on Sunday.
“Orrrrrr we could just play together for a différent organization,” Williams responded.

Speaking of shots, Team USA defeated France 67-66 on Sunday to wrap up the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. However, the final outcome could have been much different after they trailed by double-digits within minutes of the second half.
Williams, who starred at UConn from 2014-18, was the leading scorer with an Olympic career-high 19 points for the French squad, and nearly tied the game at the buzzer with a made basket. After video review, it was clear her foot was over the line and Team USA was awarded the final gold medal of this year’s Games.

Reese and Williams’ paths have never crossed on the court, and if Williams isn’t open to a WNBA return over the next few years, the first time these two could see each other on the court is during the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Of course, Reese was a part of the Team WNBA group that defeated Team USA 117-109 during the 2024 WNBA All-Star game. After that game, Reese discussed her aspirations to play for Team USA in the Olympics in the future.
“One day I want to be a Team USA member,” Reese told ESPN’s Holly Rowe on the court postgame. “One day I want to be with that team, so it was an honor for me to come out and play. Coming off the bench, I just wanted to bring as much energy as I could.”
For now, Reese will focus on the rest of her WNBA rookie season. The Sky’s return from the league’s Olympic hiatus will see Chicago battle the Phoenix Mercury on Aug. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET live inside Wintrust Arena as the WNBA begins its back stretch of the 2024 season.
