Caitlin Clark opens up on Indiana Fever's push for playoff spot
It’s been a whirlwind year for first overall WNBA Draft pick Caitlin Clark, who is now suiting up for the Indiana Fever.
She’s firmly in the running for the league’s rookie of the year award, while earning an All-Star nod in her first season in the league. She’s also setting records at the WNBA level, seemingly every week at this point.
But there’s something else on Clark’s mind right now: making the playoffs and competing for a WNBA title.
“I feel good. Obviously we’re in playoff contention. We’re in position to have a playoff spot, and that’s our goal,” Caitlin Clark said in an interview with Keith Murphy of SoundOFF. “We haven’t been there since 2016, so these last 15 games, 16 games, it’s going to be really important for us.”
Currently the Fever sport an 11-15 overall record, the second-to-last team above the playoff cut line. The Chicago Sky — home to rival Angel Reese — is also right in contention for the final spot.
Making sure the season closes out on a positive note is imperative for Clark if she hopes to reach the playoffs in her first season.

“We’ve been having practice. It’s good we have a lot of our team together over this Olympic break,” Clark said. “Obviously we’re only missing one player to the Olympics, so I think it’s going to be huge, it’s going to be fun. Obviously competing for a couple of those last spots to get into the playoffs.”
Caitlin Clark has certainly done her part.
The talented rookie is averaging a team-high 17.1 points per game, while also leading the team with 8.2 assists. She even chips in 5.8 rebounds per game.
Earlier this season she recorded the first-ever triple-double by a rookie, something few imagined was possible just a few short months ago.
However things play out with the playoff picture, you can be assured of one thing: Caitlin Clark will have plenty of eyes on her as she attempts to reach new heights.
