If she wasn’t already, Caitlin Clark is now having the best rookie season in franchise history for the Indiana Fever.

Clark hit a three-pointer on Sunday in the second quarter against the Dallas Wings to tie the game at 37 and give her eight points to that point. With that, though, she also set the team’s new record for points in a debut season with a total of 595 points and counting.

Tamika Catchings held the previous record from back in 2002. She scored 594 points for an average of 18.6 ppg.. That earned her Rookie of the Year while also getting recognition as First-Team All-WNBA and finishing in third in voting for the MVP.

Clark is on pace for a similar-type year in her rookie year just over two decades later in 2024.

Coming into today, Clark is averaging 18.4 points while shooting 41.9% from the field and 33.7% from three. She’s posting those along with 8.3 assists, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 5.4 turnovers per game. That’s a league-leading number in assists along with turnovers while also being ninth in scoring.

With those numbers, Clark is already living up to much of the hype around her. She was already an All-Star with her having seven games to go after today to earn further honors such as Rookie of the Year herself or being an All-WNBA selection.

Regardless, Clark’s career in Indy is already off to the start that many hoped for. That’s certainly so with her now having more points than any rookie has ever had with the franchise in their quarter century of history.

Clark breaks single-season rookie three-point record

Caitlin Clark has shattered records throughout her career and she continues to break more as time passes.

On Wednesday of this week, Clark broke yet another big one with the rookie single-season three-point record. She passed Rhyne Howard who drilled 85 threes in 2022.

The former No. 1 overall pick, Clark has so far been a frontrunner for Rookie of the Year. She is averaging 18.0 points, 8.2 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game. She also became the first WNBA rookie to ever record a triple-double.

This comes after she recently set the rookie assist record the weekend prior against Seattle. She reached the new season total of 232 to make the new first-year record in the WNBA.
