Late in the third quarter of Saturday’s game between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever, Chennedy Carter committed a hard foul on Caitlin Clark. The officials deemed it an away-from-the-play foul, resulting in a free throw for the No. 1 overall pick that wound up making the difference in the 71-70 Indiana victory.

After the game, when asked by reporters about what happened, Carter declined comment.

“I ain’t answering no Caitlin Clark questions,” Carter said.

Carter then received two more questions about the situation, including what Clark might have said after the play. The reporter then asked about what Carter responded with, but that’s when Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon stepped in to help move on.

“I don’t know what she said,” Carter answered.

Shortly after the play occurred, Clark did an in-game interview with ESPN’s Angel Gray following the third quarter. She discussed the situation and the nature of the foul, but pointed out the need to keep moving in order to get the win.

“It’s just not a basketball play,” Clark said. “Gotta play through it. That’s what playing basketball is at this level.”

Clark and the Fever went on to get their first home victory, although Chicago had opportunities. Marina Mabrey went to the free throw line in the final seconds, but went 1-for-2 as the Sky trailed 71-69. That gave Indiana a chance to run out the clock, and the Fever did just that to seal it.

On the whole, Clark finished with 11 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists to help lead the Fever to the win. Indiana now improves to 2-8 on the season, and at long last, has a victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Sky-Fever was also Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese rematch

Saturday’s game was also the first professional showdown between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The two rookies developed a budding rivalry during their respective careers at Iowa and LSU, and the game generated some big-time attention.

NBA TV was originally set to air the contest, but it got flexed to ESPN last month, and the network brought out its A-team crew. Ryan Ruocco and Rebecca Lobo were on the call, with Gray working the sidelines, as Indiana got its first home win of the year.

Reese had a solid performance, as well, as she totaled eight points to go with 13 rebounds – including eight on the offensive glass to set a new Sky rookie record. However, it ultimately wasn’t enough to help Chicago get the victory.

The Sky and Fever will square off again June 16 in Gainbridge, and it will once again be on the big stage on CBS.
