Chennedy Carter is unapologetic after shoulder checking Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark to the ground on Saturday. The foul occurred in the third quarter of a contest between the Fever and Chicago Sky just before Clark was set to receive an inbounds pass.

Carter was seen yelling “you b*tch” in the direction of Clark, who didn’t seem to notice her approaching as she was waiting for the ball. The Chicago Sky guard then bumped her hard, knocking her to the ground. It was ruled an away-from-the-play foul rather than a flagrant and Clark was awarded one free throw.

Carter declined to answer any questions about the incident in her postgame interview. She also claimed not to know what Clark said prior that would have warranted such a reaction. However, her activity on social media after the game painted a picture as to how she felt.

Carter was seen liking several posts on X from fans who were applauding her for the foul, with some even claiming that Clark flopped on the play.

Clark briefly addressed the foul during an in-game interview after the third quarter.

“It’s just not a basketball play,” she said. “Gotta play through it. That’s what playing basketball is at this level.”

The No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Clark has already had several encounters with opposing players early in her rookie season. She has already amassed a league-leading three technical fouls through only 10 games.

Some of those technicals have come from arguing with officials. Others, such as the one she received for staring down Seattle Storm guard Victoria Vivians on Thursday, have been confrontations with her opponents.

Clark added that she felt like she was getting “hammered” following that game, with veterans in the league seemingly playing her more physical because of the hype she received entering the WNBA.

“I think everybody is physical with me, they get away with things that probably other people don’t get away with,” she said. “It’s tough, but that’s just the fact of the matter. This is a very physical game, and you’re going to get pressure, this is professional basketball. It is what it is, honestly.”

The foul ended up having a big impact on the outcome of the game as the Fever went on to win 71-70 to claim their second victory of the season. Without the free throw Caitlin Clark received as a result of the foul from Chennedy Carter, perhaps the game would have gone to overtime.

Clark finished Saturday’s win with 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists on 4-of-11 shooting.
