The Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever are squaring off for the third time this month in a matchup that features some of the most intriguing rookies in the WNBA. And yet again it’s another back-and-forth, close contest between the two squads with neither team having more than a six-point lead so far in Sunday’s matchup.

The Fever entered halftime with a 46-45 lead over the Sky, and while Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon was being interviewed by ESPN’s broadcast crew to start the first half, she couldn’t help but let her emotions pour following an electric play.

Chicago rookie Kamilla Cardoso made a tough layup on a play she was fouled on to set the tone and give the Sky back the lead to start the third quarter. Which Weatherspoon couldn’t help but get excited about in a hilarious moment that can be seen below.

Early foul trouble kept Cardoso off of the floor in the first half after picking up two fouls in the first quarter. But in the second half, she posted a strong performance beyond her and-1 finish to start things off in the third quarter, ending the game with 16 points and 10 rebounds to post the second double-double of her rookie season. Playing a major role in Chicago’s 88-87 come-from-behind win on Sunday.

Cardoso has been catching her stride lately after being selected by the Sky with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft out of South Carolina. Scoring 35 points and grabbing 31 rebounds in her last three games in a stretch where Chicago has won two of their six games on the season.

Weatherspoon is in the midst of her first season as the Sky head coach and a WNBA coach overall after spending five seasons as the head coach of her alma mater Louisiana Tech and five seasons as an assistant with the New Orleans Pelicans. As she looks to help return Chicago back to their winning ways after winning the WNBA Finals in 2021.

Cardoso and rookie teammate Angel Reese could be the duo to help return the Sky back to mountaintop after both being selected as top 10 picks in the most recent draft. With Reese also recording a double-double on Sunday with a career-high 25 points and 16 assists. Which made her the first rookie to post that stat line since A’ja Wilson in 2018 and extended her rookie record double-double streak to eight games (also currently fourth all time in WNBA history).
