Chicago Sky announce Kamilla Cardoso to miss 4-6 weeks with shoulder injury
The WNBA’s Chicago Sky just revealed some unfortunate news about one of their top picks from the 2024 WNBA Draft. On Monday, according to Nancy Armour of USA Today, Chicago announced that they would be shelving their top pick from this year’s draft, former South Carolina big Kamilla Cardoso, for an extended period of time.
“Chicago Sky just announced Kamilla Cardoso will be out at least 4-6 weeks with that shoulder injury from Friday night’s game,” reported Armour via X.
This is an unfortunate break for Cardoso and the Sky, as the injury happened during their first contest of the preseason against the Minnesota Lynx. With the injury, the 3rd overall pick from this year’s draft is assured to miss the remainder of the preseason and the first quarter of the Sky’s season, should the injury take the full six weeks to heal.
Chicago does have one more preseason game scheduled for Tuesday against the New York Liberty. After that, the 2024 WNBA season will tip off for the sky eight days later, with a road season opener on Wednesday, May 15, against the Dallas Wings.
Angel Reese hits Kamilla Cardoso with impressive assist in WNBA preseason game
It didn’t take long for Chicago Sky first round picks Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso to show off their chemistry. During the Sky’s preseason matchup against the Minnesota Lynx, Reese threw a sneaky dime to a cutting Cardoso for a wide-open layup.

BOR meeting sparks speculation
The Sky selected Cardoso with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. The organization drafted Reese only four picks later. If Friday night is any indication, the front court duo could be a headache for opponents for years to come.
It may take a while for Reese and Cardoso to get used to wearing the same jersey. Although they are now teammates, they have waged war against each other for two years in the SEC. This past season, South Carolina and LSU faced off twice. Cardoso and her fellow Gamecocks walked away with a win on both occasions.
The last time the two storied programs met was in the SEC Tournament Championship. In the heated battle, Reese tallied 15 points and 13 rebounds. For the Gamecocks, Cardoso notched eight points, six rebounds and three blocks.
