Angel Reese passes Candace Parker for most-consecutive double-doubles in WNBA history
Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese recorded the second double-double of her WNBA career on June 4 in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup against the New York Liberty with 13 points and 10 rebounds. And ever since that day, Reese has started a streak that now sits atop the WNBA record books.
In the third quarter of Chicago’s Sunday matchup against the Seattle Storm, Reese cleaned up a missed layup by teammate Kamilla Cardoso with an offensive rebound and put-back layup to record her 11th point and 11th rebound of the game. Which officially made her the WNBA’s record holder for consecutive double-doubles with 13 on the season in her rookie year.
Reese was selected by the Chicago Sky with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft this year following a standout college career at LSU and Maryland. A two-time All-American who also led the Tigers to a national title win in 2023 where she was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
In her breakout junior college season she put the basketball world on notice with a career-high 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. Scoring and rebounding prowess that she’s now been able to translate seamlessly to the WNBA level just 20 games into her professional career.
Reese is averaging 13.9 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game so far in her rookie season, recently surpassing two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson as the league’s leading rebounder. Also securing her first WNBA All-Star selection in the process fresh off of being named the WNBA Rookie of the Month for June.

“They just told me I’m an All-Star, I’m just so happy,” Reese said moved to tears after learning the news. “I know the work I put in. Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate and I wouldn’t be the player that I was in college, or better, or would be worse, or wouldn’t be where I am right now. But I trusted the process and I believed, and I’m thankful that I dropped to seven [overall pick in the draft] and was able to come to Chicago.”
“It’s just a blessing,” she added. “I can’t thank my teammates and my coaches enough for believing in me and trusting me. I know all of them are gonna come to Phoenix and support me, I’m really happy right now.”
Reese ended Sunday’s matchup with 17 points, 14 rebounds, and four steals in the Sky’s 84-71 loss to the Storm. As she looks to continue building on her historic double-double streak ahead of her first All-Star game seven games away.
