The 2024 SEC Softball Tournament got underway on Tuesday with No. 12 Kentucky and No. 13 Ole Miss beginning the action as the day’s only game. Rebels star Paige Smith got off to a quick start, hitting a home run in the first inning to give Ole Miss an early lead

She kept it going with an RBI single in the third and also got on base via a hit by pitch in the fourth. Those would be her only two hits of the day, but it got the ball rolling for the Rebels on their way to an eventual 7-2 victory.

Smith wasn’t only Rebels player to go yard on the day as leadoff hitter Jalia Lassiter ended the game in style with a two-RBI shot in the seventh. Grace Sparks picked up the win after starting the game at pitcher, allowing just three hits across 4.2 innings.

Ole Miss now moves on to face No. 5 seed Missouri in the next round Wednesday. Tennessee earned the No. 1 overall seed and will have a bye for the first two rounds as one of the top four seeds. No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 4 Arkansas round out the remainder of the top four seeds.
