Indiana Fever part ways with head coach Christie Sides after Caitlin Clark rookie season
On Sunday, the Indiana Fever announced they have parted ways with head coach Christie Sides. Sides was the Fever’s head coach for two years, leading the team to a 20-20 record this past season before falling in the first round of the WNBA Playoffs.
“We are incredibly thankful to Coach Sides for embracing the challenge of leading us through an integral transition period over the last two seasons, while also positioning us well for future growth,” said Fever president of basketball operations Kelly Krauskopf.
“While decisions like these are never easy, it is also imperative that we remain bold and assertive in the pursuit of our goals, which includes maximizing our talent and bringing another WNBA championship back to Indiana. Coach Sides was an incredible representative of the Fever and our community, and we wish her nothing but success in the future.”
The Fever’s trip to the WNBA Playoffs this season was their first since 2016. WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark was excellent under Sides, averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists per game.
In the 2023-24 season, Clark compiled the most points (769), assists and 3-point field goals made ever by a rookie in WNBA history. Further, Clark’s 337 assists were the most ever in a single season by any WNBA player.

Sides also guided Fever forward Aliyah Boston to earn the 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year Award. In the 2022-23 season, the Fever posted a 13-27 record and failed to reach the playoffs. Now, Sides won’t have an opportunity to see what a third season at the helm of the Fever had in store for her.
The Fever’s decision to fire Christie Sides is only one of the numerous staff changes the organization has made this month. Additionally, the Fever named Amber Cox as chief operating officer and general manager.
The team’s current general manager, Lin Dunn, will move into a new position as senior advisor to Fever Basketball. Whoever leads the Fever next will inherit a team full of budding talent, with Caitlin Clark leading the path forward in women’s basketball.
