Jewell Loyd sidesteps Caitlin Clark question after Fever beat Storm: 'I'm going to talk about our rookies'
The 2024 WNBA rookie class has taken the league by storm as the association is seeing all-time highs in viewership and fan engagement. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in particular have been major factors in this regard.
After the Seattle Storm lost to Clark and the Indiana Fever 92-75 on Sunday, former No. 1 overall pick Jewell Loyd was asked about Clark’s growth during her rookie season. The Storm guard didn’t want to discuss Clark postgame.
“I’m going to talk about our rookies,” she said. “Nika [Muhl] has been great. She’s been awesome and putting that work in. Jordan [Horston] has been phenomenal, too, in the second year of her growth.
“Our focus in on our team and what we need to do as a community to be better. I feel like what this group has in the locker room has made us better. I think that’s the biggest importance for us, focusing on our personnel and what we need to do to get things going.”
Her comments come after she took 22 shots during a 17-point loss to Clark’s squad. Meanwhile, Clark did a bit of everything to help her team win with 23 points, nine assists, five rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Loyd did score 26 points to lead her team, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to win at the packed arena inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

This wasn’t the only bit of drama that took place during the Fever’s blowout of the Storm. Skylar Diggins-Smith appeared to intensify her walking pace before colliding into Clark as she was hyping up the home crowd.

This adds to the multiple of other instances that has seen WNBA veteran take exception to Clark’s star power since she entered the pros.
Notably, Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter and Clark got into it earlier this season. When situations like that happen, Clark has said that she just tells her self the correct way to respond is to calm down and let her game do the talking.
Clark is averaging 17.8 points, 8.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds so far during her rookie campaign with the Fever. After defeating Seattle on Sunday, Indiana improved to 13-15 overall on the season which is good for third place in the Eastern Conference and sixth overall in league standings.
The Fever are back in action on Saturday, Aug. 24 against the Minnesota Lynx.
