After former South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley officially announced she is transferring to LSU on Friday, Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey didn’t hesitate to take a victory lap on social media. Shortly after Fulwiley’s announcement, Mulkey posted a GIF of her and the 2022-23 national championship team dancing.

Fulwiley will look to bring another title to Baton Rouge. Fulwiley spent two seasons at South Carolina, where she amassed 77 appearances and back-to-back trips to the National Championship, including a win in the 2023-24 season.

Fulwiley averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this past season while shooting 42.6% from the field and 25.8% from beyond the arc. For her efforts, she was named an All-SEC Second-Team selection and was the conference’s Sixth Woman of the Year.

She also reeled in numerous accomplishments for her standout debut campaign. She was a member of the All-SEC Freshman Team and won the 2024 SEC Tournament MVP Award.

Kim Mulkey knows about Fulwiley’s talents all too well. Fulwiley is 3-0 against the Tigers in her collegiate career and scored 24 points in the Gamecocks’ win over LSU in the 2024 SEC Tournament Championship.

Along with the addition of Fulwiley, LSU will return guards Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams next season. The Tigers posted a 31-6 record this past season. They ultimately fell 72-65 to UCLA in the Elite Eight.

Six LSU players have entered the transfer portal this offseason. In turn, Fulwiley is the Tigers’ fourth addition via the portal. She joins Kate KovalSerah Williams and Amiya Joyner. LSU is currently ranked No. 1 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

Kim Mulkey will certainly be ready for another chance to make a run for the women’s college basketball crown. After LSU’s season-ending loss to UCLA in the NCAA Tournament, Mulkey discussed the perspective necessary to field a competitive team every year.

“I’ve learned to keep perspective, and time will help me think about things through the course of the year on things that we did that were really amazing, and — and the portal, right? It’s time to get in the portal,” Mulkey said. “This one leaves, this one goes, this one comes. So next year we’ll start this thing up again and see what kind of team you have and go to work.”
