Lonzo Ball is standing up for Angel Reese after she was ejected in the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s Chicago Sky game against the New York Liberty. Reese received the ejection after picking up her fifth foul with 2:31 to go and appearing to wave off the official who called her for it.

The referee responded by giving her a double technical.

The play led to a big reaction on social media from fans who didn’t agree with the call, including Ball. The Chicago Bulls guard took to X to voice his opinion on the matter, calling it “weak” and offering to pay any fine that Reese is issued as a result.

“Ref that threw out @Reese10Angel is weak btw…” Ball wrote. “You know who you are (Keep ya money Angel I got you).”

Reese finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort and recorded her first career block. However, the Sky went on to lose the game 88-75 to drop to 3-5 on the season.

It was reported after the game that Reese will receive a fine of $200 per technical foul for a grand total of $400. Ball made roughly $20.5 million this past season and has a $21.4 million player option coming up in 2024-25. Comparatively, Reese is set to earn $73,439 under her rookie contract.

That being the case, Ball should have plenty of money to take care of Reese’s fine.

Ball has been a member of the Bulls since the 2021-22 season. However, he has played only 35 games for Chicago after missing the past two years due to a knee injury. Based on his earlier tweets, it appeared that Ball was in attendance at the game as he posted “First WNBA game ever and @breannastewart IS THAT!!”

Lead official explains Angel Reese double technical, ejection

After the Chicago Sky’s loss to the New York Liberty Tuesday night, the big question was about Angel Reese’s ejection from the game. The rookie forward received a double-technical foul with 2:31 to play in the game, and even Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon was wondering what happened.

The lead official shared the explanation afterward while speaking with the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe.

Maj Forsberg said Reese received her first tech for “disrespectfully addressing” the referee, and the second technical came for waving them off. The former LSU star had four fouls at the time of the play.

On3’s Nick Schultz contributed to this report.
