After giving Clemson its only run of the game to that point, Marian Collins stepped to the plate in the ninth inning against South Carolina looking to come through again. She did just that.

Collins launched her second homer of the night to left-center field, sending the Tigers past the Gamecocks 2-1 in extra innings. It was quite the way to cap the night and give Clemson a huge rivalry win.

With the win, Clemson improves to 35-11 overall heading into the final stretch of the season. The Tigers also continue to improve their chances of hosting an NCAA Tournament game.

Both Collins’ hits in Tuesday’s game were solo home runs as she led Clemson to the victory. The first one came in the sixth inning to tie things up after South Carolina took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Alex Brown and Maddie Moore both had two-hit nights, as well, although the Tigers struggled to push runs across outside of Collins’ homers.

Brooke McCubbin got the win in the circle for Clemson after an impressive showing out of the bullpen. She threw five innings of two-hit ball, allowing two walks and recording one strikeout during that time. She took over for Reese Basinger, who gave up seven hits and one run over her four innings of work before the bullpen took over.

Jori Heard got the start for South Carolina and allowed three hits in 2.1 innings. Sam Gress then came in to relieve her and allowed both home runs to Marian Collins to take the loss, dropping her record to 8-7 on the year.

Clemson now has seven games left in the regular season, including one final non-conference matchup against Tennessee. The Tigers have six ACC matchups left, starting with a three-game series against Boston College this weekend at McWhorter Stadium. They will then close things out against Georgia Tech April 25-27 in Atlanta.

Heading into the series against Boston College, Clemson sits in third place in the ACC with a 14-4 record in league play. Virginia Tech and Florida State are tied for first with identical 14-1 marks as the march toward the conference tournament heats up.
