On Sunday, No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 13 NC State had nearly a 10-minute break between the end of regulation and overtime due to a medical emergency in the stands. The broadcast briefly showed the emergency, which occurred in the upper deck of Reynolds Coliseum.

Several medical personnel members could be seen administering care to the person suffering the emergency. At the time of this report, no update has been provided about the person who needed medical attention.

Fortunately, NC State and Notre Dame helped fans take their minds off the scary scene in the ensuing two overtimes. The two powerhouse teams traded blows back and forth like two prize fighters. Nonetheless, the Wolfpack ultimately pulled off the upset, winning 104-95.

It is the first time since 1978 that NC State has defeated a No. 1 ranked team at home. The Wolfpack looked excellent in the victory, with all five of the team’s starters scoring double figures.

However, nobody outscored Zoe Brooks, who erupted for 33 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 9-20 from the floor and a stunning 14-14 from the free-throw line.

Tilda Trygger was also fantastic. The 6-foot-6 freshman racked up 11 points and nine rebounds in the win on 8-9 shooting from the field. After the game, Zoe Brooks raved about her team’s massive triumph.

“It’s a great, great feeling. Great atmosphere. It’s a really big game, the No. 1 team in the country and I just had a great time today,” Brooks said. “We always play together. We’re a sisterhood, we’re a family and we know that if we play together, we can beat anybody in the country.”

Lindsay Gottlieb showers JuJu Watkins with praise

After a monster freshman season at USCJuJu Watkins is putting together an impressive follow-up. All the while, she’s also one of the faces of college women’s basketball – and head coach Lindsay Gottlieb praised how Watkins is navigating it all.

On the court, Watkins leads USC with 24.2 points, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game this season. That includes a monster showing against No. 1 UCLA when she had 38 points, 11 rebounds, eight blocks and five assists to propel the Trojans to the huge rivalry victory.

But off the court, she’s one of the most visible names in the sport, securing NIL deals with State Farm and Nike as part of her growing portfolio. Life in the spotlight can be tough to handle, and Gottlieb said Watkins is taking it all in stride.

“It’s unbelievable,” Gottlieb said on SiriusXM College Sports Radio. “I see it every day, the grace with which she handles really positive attention and the way she galvanized the community. When I got the job here, there were 700 people in the stands. Now, there’s thousands. That’s, I think, because of her gravity and she understands that.”

On3’s Nick Schultz also contributed to this report.
