Paige Bueckers was the first name called Monday night in New York City. The Dallas Wings selected the UConn Huskies start with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. A new face of the franchise is heading to Dallas, soon making her debut in May.

Before stepping on the court, there is a contract to figure out. Luckily, there was already a structure in place, no matter who was the first pick. Bueckers will sign a three-year deal with the Wings and a club option is included in 2028.

A salary just under $79,000 will be paid to Bueckers during the 2025 season. By the final year of her rookie contract, the number will surpass six figures — assuming Dallas picks up the option. The numbers come via Spotrac on X.

The Wings is a proud WNBA franchise, having two championships throughout their history. Although, those were in different cities as the Detroit Shock. A move to Dallas was engineered in 2016 from Tulsa and the results have not been great.

Since moving to Dallas, just one playoff series win is on the resume. Last year was a losing one, winning just nine games and winning the WNBA lottery for the right to draft Bueckers.

If there can be some kind of long-term success with Bueckers on the team, the salary Dallas is paying her will all be worth it. A massive day for the Wings as everyone is hoping it’s one of the best moves in franchise history.

Paige Bueckers signs deal with Unrivaled, surpassing WNBA salary

Per ESPN, Bueckers has signed a three-year deal with Unrivaled, the new three-versus-three women’s basketball league that just completed its first season last month. That contract will be worth a sum that her first year’s compensation will exceed what she’ll make entirely on her four-year deal if she is, as expected, the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings on Monday.

“Projected No. 1 overall WNBA draft pick Paige Bueckers is signing a three-year deal with the 3-on-3 league Unrivaled, sources told ESPN on Sunday,” ESPN’s Kendra Andrews wrote. “Bueckers’ first-year salary for the 10-week Unrivaled season will exceed what she would make in all four years of her WNBA rookie contract, sources said. If Bueckers is the top pick in the draft, she is set to earn $78,831 in her first year, according to the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement.”
